Pinky Finger

Twitching Pinky Finger

The pinky finger may seem as unimportant compared to other parts of the body. After all, it is just a small part of the hand, and a bruise or wound on the hand isn’t really life threatening. However, did you know that your pinky fingers can also tell a thing or two about your health? Pinky fingers are the smallest fingers that can be found on the hand. Their physical purpose is to help support the other fingers of the hand when handling small or irregularly-shaped objects. Although the pinky finger is small, it still consists of muscles, metacarpals (finger bones), and sensitive nerves.

A twitching or tingling in pinky finger can signify anything from tiredness to a progressive neurological disorder. For instance, if you are tired and have used your hands in your labor the whole day, you can feel a tingling or twitching sensation when you get to rest. However, progressive diseases like ALS can also manifest in the form of twitching of the extremities, such as the pinky finger. If you experience this sensation on your pinkie finger, observe it for a few days. If you continue experiencing it after resting for 2-3 days, seek the opinion of a doctor.

Fractured Pinky Finger

A fractured pinky finger is anything but small and insignificant. Anybody who experienced having a broken finger can tell you how painful it is to use that hand, sometimes even the whole arm. Broken pinky finger symptoms include excessive pain, inability to bend or straighten the said pinky finger, redness, swelling, and a feeling of “electrical currents” flowing through the arm where the pinky finger is located. A fractured pinky finger will be easily treated by proper casting and rehabilitation from a health care professional.

Numbness in Pinky and Ring Finger

Numbness in pinky finger should not be a cause for alarm, but it should be observed and attended to immediately. After all, a numb pinky finger and/or ring finger can indicate that you are suffering from a pinched nerve or what you call “ulnar nerve entrapment”. This happens when the ulnar nerve, a nerve that runs along the arm from the clavicle to your pinky finger and ring finger, gets pinched by frequently bending your elbow toward your body. This can be avoided by keeping your arm straight and unconstricted as much as possible.

The pinky finger may not be a major organ, but it still deserves attention and concern if you feel any pain or discomfort from it. Keep close attention to your pinky finger; it may tell you something important that you need to know.

Pinky Finger Numbness

What is Pinky Finger Numbness?

Pinky finger numbness is a feeling of lack of circulation on your pinky finger, the smallest finger that can be found on your hands. This can be caused by a number of things. The most common reason why you can feel numbness in pinky finger is when you cut off the circulation of the blood to your hand by accident. This happens when you carry a heavy handbag or by letting a heavy bag hang from your wrist. Relief can be felt after the initial tingling which is sometimes called, “blood rush”.
